Once home of the famous Dodo, the Lava Tubes of Mauritius were created at the same time the
island was born. Visiting them is like taking a look into the long bygone past. Unfortunately,
modern development has left its traces. We aim to restore this spectacular nature site to a
state that visitors can enjoy and you can be a part of it – tidying up the Dodo Den. Together,
we explore the former lava bubbles; carrying trash bags and picking up the remnants of
civilisation found along the way. Some people from the village may even appear on site to help,
as they did during past excursions. Afterwards, we have a cleansing and refreshing swim in the
nearby river, while feasting on local snacks and delicacies, freshly bought in the village.
The Other Side is your choice of getting to know Mauritius on a profound level; looking at those
places which are not visited by the average tourist and yet might provoke the deepest and most
colourful memories of your island visit. If you want to bring a deeper meaning to your tropical
holiday for a day, we take you along to do just that!
TRIO Benefit: A part of your fee goes to the city
council, for organising clean up days around the lava tubes, regular cleaning of the bathing
site by the river and for sturdy garbage bags to be distributed.
