The Wild Side East

This is the one day trip that starts out rather late: as Fruit Bats are nocturnal animals, they will wake up late and fly out of their nesting places in the afternoon. So you will be picked up at your hotel and taken to a sumptuous lunch at the Falaise Rouge Restaurant, which offers spectacular views and great island cuisine.
Then the real adventure begins, right at the entrance to the enchanted Valley of Ferney, a carefully preserved nature gem. A 4-wheel drive Jeep takes us up the steep slopes and past stunning nature sites right into the enchanted kingdom of the Mauritian Fruit Bats. After a 20 minutes stroll we reach the observation pavilion. Sitting comfortably in the abri, and well equipped with drinks and snacks, we will spend the next hour watching those rare and endangered mammals, some with their babies on their backs, and learn from those who protect them, much about their surprising and interesting habits.The Mauritian Fruit Bat is endemic to Mauritius and only 3 out of once 4 species are preserved in Mauritius and Rodrigues.
